The recruiting trail is a 24/7 affair for all college football programs, and the Washington Huskies are certainly no exception to that.
Even as Jedd Fisch’s coaching staff continues to push for some of its top targets in the 2027 class, it’s also placing a major focus on some of the nation’s most talented prospects in the 2028 class, including four-star defensive lineman Tayaun Lawrence.

According to a report from Rivals’ Greg Biggins, the 6-foot-3, 250-pound prospect, who is ranked as the nation’s No. 62 overall prospect and No. 8 defensive lineman by the 247Sports Composite, and holds ten offers, with Alabama, Arizona, Ohio State, and Texas Tech also in pursuit, has the Huskies among his top choices early in the process, alongside the Buckeyes and Wildcats.
The Huskies have done a great job early in the 2027 class, adding a pair of promising defensive linemen to the fold in four-star Jon Ioane and three-star Matamatagi Uiagalelei, building on a strong 2026 cycle where the Huskies reeled in a trio of blue-chip prospects in Derek Colman-Brusa, JD Hill, and TI Umu-Cais. However, if Fisch’s coaching staff wants to compete with the Big Ten’s elite, it needs to continue stacking classes.
As defensive coordinator Ryan Walters and defensive line coach Jason Kaufusi continue to search for potential disruptors along the front line, Lawrence looks like the prototypical prospect for the Huskies thanks to his frame and versatility.

“Big-framed athlete who carries his weight well and will easily be able to add good size to his frame,” Biggins wrote in an evaluation for 247Sports. “Projects as an interior defensive lineman but should be able to play as an inside/outside guy and take advantage of mismatches…Naturally strong with heavy hands and already flashes an elite bull rush…Shows reactionary quickness in how he moves and has some suddenness in his game.”
