WNBA announces major schedule change for 2027 season

The WNBA is moving to a 50-game schedule beginning in the 2027 season, the league announced on Wednesday.

This represents a six-game increase from the 44-game maximum under the league’s previous collective bargaining agreement. But under the new seven-year collective bargaining agreement codified in May, the maximum increased to 50 in 2027 and 2028, and 52 from 2029-2032.

WNBA commissioner Cathy Englebert released a statement about the schedule increase on Wednesday.

“Demand for the WNBA has never been greater, and expanding to a 50-game regular season reflects the extraordinary momentum we are seeing across the league,” Engelbert said. “This move reflects our commitment to growing the game and creating more opportunities for fans to watch the best players in the world and experience the extraordinary talent and competition that define the WNBA.”
