Dawn Staley’s South Carolina are coming off a season where they competed for the NCAA title. This was second year in a row where the Gamecocks reached the national championship game. But it is also true that they have lost two NCAA title games back to back. Looking at it like that, isn’t a good look on Staley’s team.
The Gamecocks have always produced the best talents in women’s basketball. Over the years, they have recruited the most promising players and under Dawn Staley each player has found new heights. For the past two seasons, coach Staley has maintained the quality of her squad. Even though there were departures to WNBA and transfer portal, she pretty much brought in like for like changes. However, maybe that is not enough.

Now three of her stars went to the WNBA this year. After losing two back to back finals, Dawn Staley is going the extra mile for the future of South Carolina basketball. In addition to players coming in for next season, Staley has already started finding players from the 2027 class. One big name that has surfaced is Taylor Brown. And the young star has shown gratitude for it.
“I am blessed to receive an offer from the University of South Carolina! Thank you to the coaching staff for believing in me!” Brown thanked South Carolina coaches Dawn Staley and Lisa Boyer.
Apart from South Carolina, Virginia and North Carolina have also sent offers to 4-star point guard Taylor Brown.

Dawn Staley’s South Carolina team for next season
Dawn Staley’s biggest addition for next season is 5-star 6’3 forward Oliviyah Edwards, also known as the Big ‘Oh’. Edwards initially committed to Tennessee but chaos ensued for Kim Caldwell and she joined South Carolina instead.
Another 5-star addition is Jerzy Robinson. She is highly rated and is a top-5 overall prospect in class of 2026. Three more freshmen additions are forward Kaeli Wynn, Kelsi Andrews and 6’1 guard Justine Loubens. From the transfer portal, Jordan Lee from SEC rivals Texas has joined the South Carolina Gamecocks.
