Draymond Green believes NBA commissioner Adam Silver’s public comments about LeBron James’ free agency could have the opposite effect of what he intended.
Speaking on the Draymond Green Show, the Warriors forward joked that asking James to make a quicker decision may only encourage him to wait longer.
“Adam saying that is not going to speed up LeBron’s decision at all,” the player said.
“If I know Bron well, if anything, it may slow his decision down a little more because that’s just how Bron is.”
Silver recently said at Fanatics Fest that the NBA needs James to make his decision soon so the league can finalize next season’s schedule, including opening week and the Christmas Day slate.
During a live episode of the Mind the Game podcast at the event, Tyrese Haliburton also urged James to reveal his plans, but the four-time MVP replied, “We don’t have an announcement to make just yet.”
Despite his comments, Green said he still expects James’ decision to come sooner rather than later.
James’ longtime agent, Rich Paul, also recently emphasized that there is no rush, calling the choice a “business decision” and saying he reminded Silver that the timeline belongs entirely to James.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, there is currently no timetable for James’ announcement, with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers and Green’s Golden State Warriors all considered potential landing spots.
