While it’s been a long and exhausting offseason for Puka Nacua, it appears he still has time for jokes.

Nacua met with the media for the first time during Los Angeles Rams training camp Wednesday afternoon and addressed the elephant in the room. He also trolled his fellow teammate, wide receiver Davante Adams.

During the final question that was allowed for Nacua to take, he was asked about his relationship with Adams and gave an answer that ended with him joking about his age.

“I think there is something where he felt like when he came into this wide receiver room that the physicality that I think we play with,” Nacua told reporters. “Obviously, he’s going into year 40 or whatever it might be.”

After joking about Adams’ age, Nacua was reminded that his teammate will be entering his 13th season in the NFL, and he was left laughing by adding that he should say year 13 instead of 40 so his teammate doesn’t get mad at him.

After finishing up with his jokes, Nacua talked about how Adams has embraced the physicality of the Rams wide receiver room and has had a key part in mentoring the rest of the group.

Both Nacua and Adams are entering their second season as teammates together in the Rams wide receiver room and are coming off a year where they were one of the most dynamic duos at the position as they played a key part in helping Matthew Stafford win his first career MVP, in a offense that led the NFL in 6,709 yards of total offense, that was headline by 4,557 yards passing, averaging 268.1 yards per game.

Adams led the league in touchdown receptions (14) while Nacua finished the season leading the league in receptions (129)and finished second in yards (1,715), just finishing behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba of the Seattle Seahawks, who led the league with 1,793 yards.

Before coming to the Rams, Adams was once considered one of the best wide receivers in the NFL when he was a member of the Green Bay Packers.

In 2020, Adams had one of his most dominant seasons yet at the position by becoming one of six players to have 18 touchdowns in a season, and became the first player to do it since Randy Moss did in 2007.

After eight years in Green Bay, his time with the team came to an end, as he was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders.

In 2024, Adams was traded again to the New York Jets; he was released following the season and would end up signing with the Rams on a two-year $46 million deal that led to his resurgence as one of the most dominant red-zone threats in football.

“There’s always room to improve, and when you’re watching No. 17 every day, you realize just how much there is still to learn,” Nacua said. “The knowledge he has — how he understands concepts, leverage and defenses — is unbelievable. It’s always fun watching him.”
