Sonia Citron injury update: Washington Mystics star won’t suit up vs Sky

Washington Mystics guard Sonia Citron will miss the first game of her WNBA career.

On Monday, Washington announced that Citron would not play during the team’s Tuesday matchup against the Chicago Sky (7:30 p.m. ET, League Pass) at CareFirst Arena in Washington, DC. The second-year pro has a left foot sprain. It’s not clear when the Mystics guard suffered the injury, and the team did not immediately provide additional details.

Citron played 37 minutes during Washington’s most recent matchup on May 29 against the Los Angeles Sparks. In the 92-87 loss, she finished with 21 points on 70% shooting while adding eight assists. Citron also had one steal and one block.

Through seven games, Citron is averaging career highs in points (17.7), assists (2.9), steals (1.4) and field goal % (54.2). She leads the Mystics in points per game and steals per matchup.

Washington selected Citron with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft.

The former Notre Dame product earned All-Star honors during her rookie year and was also on the All-Rookie Team. Citron started every game for the Mystics during the 2025 season, averaging 14.9 points, four rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.3 steals per matchup. She also shot 47% from the field.
